French conductor Fabien Gable has gained recognition among the rising stars of his generation. He has served as music director of the Quebec Symphony Orchestra since 2013. He is making his Cleveland Orchestra debut with tonight’s concert. Born in Paris to a family of accomplished musicians, Fabien Gabel began studying trumpet at the age of six. He continued his education at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris and at the Musik Hochschule of Karlsruhe. Mr. Gabel played in several orchestras prior to pursuing his interest in conducting in 2002 with David Zinman at the Aspen Music Festival; he subsequently studied with Colin Davis, Bernard Haitink, and Paavo Järvi. Fabien Gabel made his professional conducting debut in 2003 with the Orchestre National de France. In 2004, he won the Donatella Flick Conducting Competition in London, which led to his appointment as the London Symphony Orchestra’s assistant conductor, serving 2004-06.
